Everyone has different nutritional needs based on their health and fitness goals, and meal replacement shakes are formulated based on these often wildly different targets.

This is important, as not all meal replacement shakes are intended to make you feel full; in fact, a growing number of formulations are designed for the exact opposite reason.

In an era of GLP-1 medications which slow the rate at which your stomach empties and help you feel fuller for longer, eating or drinking something that feels heavy and filling can be uncomfortable, painful and off-putting.

Given that balanced nutrition and ensuring you have enough of the vitamins and minerals you need is even more essential, one of the more unusual aspects of GLP-1 medications is eating when you do not feel hungry.

A meal replacement can partially help with this, as drinking calories and nutrients makes them easier to consume than a filling meal, but what should you do for your evening meal if you are not hungry?

Does soup actually make you feel full?

The first option for foods perfect when you are not hungry is undoubtedly one of the most obvious choices and a familiar option whenever you have an upset stomach or feel unwell.

A refreshing bowl of soup or stew is packed full of nutrients, typically containing a lot of vegetables, whole grains and lean sources of protein.

It is familiar, comforting and easy to swallow, so it can help you during days when you barely have the appetite for a smoothie or meal replacement, whilst still providing a main meal's worth of nutrients and calories, keeping you feel full for longer.

What is a good snack for someone who isn't hungry?

Toast and spreads are very good at providing comforting, easy-to-access nutrients and calories if you are not feeling like anything at all, and benefit from being both easy to prepare and versatile enough to allow you to do practically anything with them.

However, there is something special about crackers and cheese as a comfort food you can eat as either a snack or a meal, given how easy it is to add nutritional value to it.

Ultimately, both toast and crackers highlight that the golden rule of nutrition is that something is better than nothing, even if you feel too nauseous to eat anything else.

Should you eat bananas on an empty stomach?

One of the most popular diet foods, whether on their own, chopped on top of oatmeal or as part of a smoothie, bananas are nutrient-rich, contain a lot of potassium and magnesium, contain almost no fat and are easy to digest.

They are often a perfect snack to eat if you are feeling hungry, but they can also provide some nutrients and energy if you lack appetite but know you should not go without eating something.

Just bear in mind that it may affect your blood sugar levels if you eat bananas on an empty stomach.

Similarly, citrus fruits, which are rich in vitamin C, can also boost your mood and potentially help to bring back your appetite. This is a reason why oranges can often help if you are feeling tired, low or unwell.

Can I just eat eggs for a meal?

The banana of protein, eggs are rich in important vitamins, minerals, protein and healthy fats, whilst also having the remarkable ability to be cooked into almost any texture or flavour you

want.

From a simple, compact hard-boiled egg to a fluffy omelette, eggs are an ideal fast food you can prepare very quickly, however you like, with whatever sauces or accoutrements you like to make it easier to stomach, more flavourful or give it a texture that will help it go down if you are not feeling up to much else.

Can ginger help stimulate your appetite?

Adding ginger to a smoothie, tea or other drink could potentially help with stimulating your appetite, or at least counteracting the nausea effects which can cause you to feel less hungry.

One side-effect of GLP-1 medicines that can compound its appetite suppressant effect in a negative way is that it can cause nausea, stomach aches, and stomach upsets.

Ginger has the potential to be effective at relieving nausea, with some studies going as far as to claim it can help as much as anti-nausea medications whilst having fewer side effects.

What helps with this is that ginger can be enjoyed in so many different ways that it can help provide comfort even if you cannot bear the thought of eating anything substantial.
